Polotsk celebrates its 1150th anniversary

Anniversary festivities will take place in Polotsk from May 25 till June 5th, St. Euphrosyne Memorial Day.

The anniversary will feature award ceremonies for honored citizens, active participation of Polotsk twin cities, as well as some promising infrastructure projects and exciting ideas that have to do with how local trade and crafts market will look like. Apart from conferences and exhibitions, the anniversary will feature business meetings, presentations and an investment forum.

 Anniversary activities promise to be very exciting. Do not miss the event World Art Masterpieces at the Walls of the Ancient Sophia Cathedral, and the opening of Rogneda, which will be staged by the Honored Amateur Group of the Republic of Belarus (Piligrim Theatre of the Polotsk City Culture Centre) together with the Yakub Kolas National Academic Drama Theatre. During its anniversary festivities, Polotsk will amaze its visitors with medieval atmosphere that will be recreated at the Rubon festival, which is co-financed by the EU within the Bella Dvina-2 project. It will also retain its aura of the spiritual capital of the country, due to its international festivals of bell chimes and Orthodox art, as well as an exhibition fair Eastern Joy of the Polotsk Land.   

For its anniversary, Polotsk is going to host up to 3000 visitors and tourists. Main concept of the festivities is to present Polotsk as the cradle of Belarusian national identity, an outstanding spiritual, educational and cultural centre, and a modern European city. Anniversary of Polotsk will be a large-scale national and international event that will greatly contribute to the positive tourist image of Belarus.
